In this video, Jonathan Golob walks through how to convert a data frame in wide format to long format and back again. He uses Python, pandas, and JupyterLab to accomplish this task. Along the way, he explains why converting data between wide and long formats is useful for data analysis!

As the DANG! organizers we decided to adapt how our monthly meetings function to better fit the needs of our community during this era of virtual meetings. We know it is difficult for people to join yet another virtual meeting, especially outside the normal work schedule. To combat this, we decided to change how we deliver data analysis tutorials, so we’d like to introduce DANG! minis!

As most lab work at the University of Michigan comes to a temporary halt due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we’ve heard some of our fellow grad students and other researchers express an interest in learning how to code as they’re not able to conduct experimental work at this time. We thought we could help out by putting together this short guide on how to teach yourself to code.
